Cooper runs in the dog park

Cooper

A friend of ours found Cooper a 3 year old Labrador at Animal Control in Yulee.  He was about to be put down because he had heartworms and nobody wanted to deal with it.  We fostered him for a few days and were amazed at what a good dog he was.  He was calm around the neighbor kids, didn’t bark at the door, showed no interest in jumping up on the furniture and obviously loved us from first sight.  We adopted him, had him treated for the heartworms and he has returned the favor a million times over.  He was unusual for a Lab in that he showed no interest in the water or getting wet.  The slightest bit of rain caused him to put on the brakes at the door.

Then the new dog park opened.  Cooper enjoyed being around the dogs and chasing the tennis balls but would not go in the water for the longest time.  Finally we were able to entice him into the water with a tennis ball and that was all it took.  He now loves swimming in the pool in between tennis ball chasing trips and playing with all his new friends.  As we walk him around the neighborhood people are always commenting on how slim and trim he is.  We are very thankful that the Humane Society has provided this park for our dog’s enjoyment and we hope that the community continues to support it in the future.
