Sweetie and Marley
It is not a “tall tale” to say our friends, Sweetie and Marley, really help fill up our empty nest. Devastated first by the loss of our 17-year-old cockapoo and then by our daughter’s decision to join the United States military, we were lonely indeed. We took it on our own to search for five months and finally get a cockapoo puppy from a family in Jacksonville, and Sweetie adapted well to us, her new parents. Yet before very long, she also had to adapt to sharing her space and our affection with our daughter’s rescue dog, since she could not take it with her to boot camp or her first billet. So Marley joined our household, all 85 pounds of her. We accepted her with some anxiety, never having owned a large dog before, but she and Sweetie hit it off from the beginning. They eat, play, and rest side by side and have never had a cross “word.” They enjoy long walks in the neighborhood or on the beach and car trips—anywhere! They love the dog park and the chance to run free, and we love to give them that opportunity. Thanks to the Humane Society and the wonderful volunteers who made it come about and who keep it functioning. For as long as we have the “girls” together, our house has lots more noise, excitement, and energy!
