Thor
My best friend Thor came into my life a week before my birthday. He was said to be a year and a half old (we found out it was more life 8 months).
He had been surrendered to Liberty County Animal Control by a soldier who was leaving for Germany. Thankfully Animal Control works with Save A Life Pets in Savannah and Thor was fostered the very next day.
I saw Thor for the first time on Craigslist where Save A Life Pets lists their adoptable animals. I fell in love with his face the first time I saw it. I called and made arrangements to adopt him that very weekend. I drove 2 hours to Savannah to pick up my new friend.
He was very quiet and calm on our ride home and slept in my mother’s arms most of the way. Thor was very curious about his new environment and had a ball sniffing every inch of it! He was very playful and attentive.
Just 30 hours after having him home, Thor got sick. He wasn’t his normal self. I watched him that night and he wasn’t much better by morning. He was not eating or drinking. I left work early that day took him to the veterinarian where she diagnosed him with Parvo and Hookworms. I was devastated. This little guy who just came into my life was very sick and needed help. I opted for a fluid treatment and antibiotics for that night. Once again, by morning he was no better and still not eating or drinking.
I brought Thor to the Vet again around noon and left him to be hospitalized for 48 hours. He began to improve after 24 hours and started keeping food down.
The day he came home he was glad to see me. (All this after only knowing me for 3 days). Over the next couple of weeks he got stronger and started putting on some much needed weight. We took walks every afternoon and twice on weekends. We played and bonded and became great friends!
About 3 weeks after Thor came back from the hospital we went to visit the Amelia Island Dog Park and Thor fell in love! He loves to socialize, play and swim with the other dogs.
We have been coming ever since and Thor looks forward to burning off some energy at the end of every day and sometimes twice on weekends!
